Livelihood Project in Davao City 2024

admin Livelihood

Through the second full week of August 2024, GAiN PH coordinated and provided the remote communities of Davao City school supplies, livelihood training, good fellowship, and special movie time that all eventually led to enrichment for both their souls and way of life.

In the consecutive 4 days of purpose-filled excitement and energy, Rod Santos and the volunteer team dedicated themselves to the Davao communities of Barangay Upian and Barangay Magsaysay.

(This community church became our center for operations.)

On the first day, they visited a community church where GAiN had started a chicken raising livelihood project. They introduced organic farming using enzymes, a new approach based on Japanese technology. When the enzyme is properly added to the livestock feeds, it will make the animals healthier, stronger and bigger. Also, vegetables and fruit trees would have an increased yield when enzymes are added in the watering of the plants.

On the second day, the team conducted a training on modern farming in Barangay Upian, Marilog District, Davao City. There was a field practicum on the same day at one of the trainee’s farms.

(The team walked for 2 hours through the woods and crossed a river just to reach the farm land for our practicum.)

Day three was one filled with children’s laughter, happy faces, and fun-filled energy. In a covered court in Magsaysay, Davao City, elementary students were gathered and with the help of Singaporean and local volunteers, there were games, songs, and gift-giving. A total of 200 children were given bags, slippers, and school supplies.

On the fourth and last day, the team visited several homes handing out gifts and inviting the families to watch the film on the life of Jesus.

(Dubbed in their own beautiful Visayan dialect, the families listened and witnessed the story of Jesus who imparts hope and strength to people carrying the heavy burden of poverty and pain.)

These seemingly basic initiatives are channels where Global Aid Network provides not only practical but also psycho-social aid that’s both effective and long-lasting.
