Last September 5, 2025, GAiN PH joyfully visited their scholars in Zamboanga City, recognizing that imparting hope, guidance, and support in person has the power to transform lives.

GAiN’s Zamboanga Scholarship Program currently supports 18 active scholars, including 3 high school students and 15 college students. While most scholars are from Zamboanga City, a few come from neighboring provinces.

Many of these young hearts come from low-income families, often with 6 to 12 household members, and some whose parents are fishermen or are currently unemployed. Despite these challenges, our scholars are excelling academically, pursuing Education, Computer Science, B.A. in Filipino, Literature, and other courses.

How Scholars are Supported

The scholars don’t just receive financial assistance. They are also supported holistically, integrating academics with personal growth and emotional well-being. Scholars receive:

  • Monthly allowances, distributed alongside in-person gatherings.
  • Life Talks Sessions, covering topics like study skills, goal-setting, priority management, emotional and mental well-being, and spiritual formation. This month, in honor of Mental Health Month, topics are specifically focused on emotional resilience and mental wellness.
  • GAiN PH support and coaching through small online groups, monthly in-person gatherings, and one-on-one coaching, keeping them consistently engaged and guided according to their unique needs and goals.

Through coaching and recurring check-ins, scholars are encouraged to set personal goals, track their progress, and celebrate milestones. The strong bonds between volunteers and scholars formed by this model freely fosters motivation, accountability, and personal growth.

Our chapter coordinator shared a moving story about a scholar who had previously struggled to attend school due to lack of meals and support at home. He said that the scholarship program enabled this student to have the space to just focus on their studies, attending school without worrying about hunger or going to sleep on an empty stomach. Accounts like these remind us that every bit of help matters, and that a bit of support can change the course of a young life.

GAiN PH is honored to serve these scholars, guiding them academically and personally. Their success is not only a reflection of their own determination, but also of the power of a community’s support.

If you are inspired to help more scholars like those in Zamboanga, we invite you to partner with us. Your generosity can make dreams a reality, one scholar at a time.

Joyfully serving with you,

GAiN PH
